The Process of
The Psyche series combines a merger of powerful color, text, pattern and provocative imagery to create an ironic and complex allegory placed within a triptych format as a narrative and visual devise. In this work I combine sexualized and iconic female images from media culture with mythical and archetypal themes, including the story of Psyche, Sleeping Beauty, and Genesis. These ironic images investigate the relationship between the projection and subversion of the divine feminine image with the simultaneous control and exile of the feminine Psyche. As the feminine energy is exiled in culture and myth, so too is it then exiled within the individual (psyche). This, I believe is at the heart of the concept of misogyny, oppression and objectification so prevalent in modern culture.
